Honda Finance Europe mail-merge project
Ultimedia produce a mail-merge system for Honda Finance Europe.
As part of their normal day-to-day trading activity, Honda Finance Europe (HFE) need to produce a large number of letters dealing with matters such as vehicle purchase, finance deals, and insurance claims.
Details of all these activities are produced in XML format and transferred via a secure HTTP link to a process that reads the XML, matches data from the XML to a specific Word template, and generates a Word document or a series of documents (eg a welcome pack for new customers). These documents are then collated into sets for subsequent printing.
A separate web interface allows users to choose which sets of documents to print, and to confirm that physical documents were produced correctly. Users can also request re-prints of document sets, or individual documents.
Once physical printing has been confirmed, a separate process then transfers the generated Word and PDF documents via secure FTP to an archive site.
This application handles several thousand documents a day, producing letters for several European divisions of Honda Finance.
